Company History

Roeder Cartage Company (RCC) was started in 1974 by Calvin E. Roeder as a dry and refrigerated van freight transporter. As time went on and competition in the van freight business increased, RCC began the transition out of van freight and into the transportation of bulk liquid commodities, generally chemicals such as sulfuric and hydrochloric acids. We provide transportation services for the chemical and dry freight industry that are environmentally safe and sound and in a responsible manner throughout. We have created health and safety practices and work environments that enable our employees to work injury-free.

In the late 1900's, Cal met Mr. Dave Lovell from Coulton Chemical Co. who assisted him in obtaining the authorities to haul bulk liquid hazardous chemicals throughout the United States and Canada. Trucking companies that haul such materials are required to implement comprehensive safety and training programs for their drivers. Roeder Cartage is no exception. Frequent and ongoing driver training, not to mention a well-maintained fleet of vehicles, have helped Roeder Cartage Company achieve and maintain one of the highest safety records among trucking companies our size. Our employees are the backbone of this company. They are dedicated and highly specialized in what they do. Roeder employees share the company's concern for safety and excellent customer service. Cal stresses to all employees and especially the drivers that “We operate this business like a family in that every employee is an important and vital part of the RCC family business.”

RCC has always and will continue to compete with other transport carriers for the National Tank Truck Carriers' safety awards. Founded in 1945, National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) is a trade association composed of approximately 200 trucking companies which specialize in the nationwide distribution of bulk liquids, industrial gases and dry products in cargo tank motor vehicles. These awards are known as The Competitive Safety Award, The Safety Improvement Award, and the Personnel Safety Award. Some of the awards won by the company between 1990 and 2007 are as follows:

  • The Competitive Safety Award (17 awards)
  • The Safety Improvement Award (7 awards)
  • The Personnel Safety Award (9 awards)

RCC was presented with The Heil Outstanding Performance Award in 1994. This award is given annually to that tank transport company which exemplifies the best of the best in this industry. The “Heil” trophy cup is displayed prominently in the home office lobby.

In addition to these safety awards our company has recently won The Presidents Award from Great West Casualty for 2008.

In 1981, due to the success and growth of the company, Roeder Cartage moved to its current location at 1979 N. Dixie Highway Lima, OH and added an additional maintenance shop in 1986.

In addition to the new building at the Lima terminal, RCC started operations in Paris, KY in 1992 and then in 1994 purchased the land and built our own facility located at 10 Legion Drive. Additionally, in 2002, RCC purchased a facility located at 1712 Drouillard Rd. in Oregon, OH as a satellite terminal which includes truck and trailer parking, a diesel refueling station, and a maintenance facility.

Due to Cal's knowledge, hard work and the help of every member of the RCC family; Roeder Cartage has grown to be the success that it is today – 35 years later!
